What is “Terminull Brigade” GDC 2025

At Game Developers Conference (GDC) 2025, Mufsin got a chance to sit down with the team behind Terminull Brigade and try the game. The demo gave a clear sense of what the developers are aiming for: a co-op shooter that leans into roguelike structure without making it feel closed off or punishing for new players.

From the start, the pitch is simple. You step into a digital battlefield, follow Aion’s lead, and work your way through enemy waves and bosses while uncovering what Terminull is really doing behind the scenes. The story unfolds in pieces, layered into runs rather than stopping the action.

Terminull Brigade is a Roguelike Shooter That Keeps Things Moving

The team described the game as a mix of two things they already enjoy: roguelikes and shooters. That combination shapes everything. Instead of a top-down or slower-paced format, this plays like a fast, third-person or action-focused shooter with roguelike progression layered underneath.

They were clear about wanting a lower barrier for players. The game is free-to-play, and the structure is built so people can jump in solo or with a group without needing deep experience in the genre.

What stood out during the demo is how readable everything felt. Enemy encounters come in waves, abilities are easy to understand, and the pace stays steady without overwhelming the player right away. It still has that roguelike loop, but it doesn’t lean too hard on complexity early on.

Co-op Is the Core, Not an Extra

While you can play alone, Terminull Brigade is built around co-op. The design encourages players to fill different roles and cover each other during fights. Some characters focus on direct action, while others support from a distance or summon helpers.

One character can focus on fast, skill-based combat, while another relies on summoned robots to handle enemies. That contrast makes team composition matter without turning it into strict class roles.

It also changes the tone of each run. Playing solo feels tighter and more controlled, while co-op adds a bit of craziness in a good way. You’re reacting to what everyone else is doing, not just your own decisions.

Characters and Playstyles

There are multiple characters available, each with their own abilities and approach to combat. Some lean toward aggressive, close-range play, while others let you step back and manage the fight indirectly.

One developer mentioned favoring a more action-heavy character, while another preferred a setup that allowed them to summon units and keep things manageable from a distance.

That range helps the game stay flexible. You can switch characters depending on how you want to play or what your team needs, and it changes the feel of each run without needing a full system overhaul.

Ongoing Content and Seasonal Updates in Terminull Brigade

Since the game is free-to-play, the team plans to expand it over time. Updates will come in seasons, each bringing new maps, characters, and themed content tied to different parts of the game’s digital world.

There’s also a story mode planned alongside these updates, so the narrative isn’t locked behind one playthrough. Instead, it builds as the game grows.

The developers described these updates as a way to keep the experience fresh, with new environments and gameplay variations tied to each season.

GDC Atmosphere and First Impressions

The team traveled internationally to showcase the game at GDC, and the energy around the booth matched that effort. There was a clear focus on getting the game in front of players and seeing how people respond in real time.

From our side, the demo felt approachable without being shallow. It doesn’t try to reinvent the genre, but it does combine familiar ideas in a way that feels easy to pick up and built for replay.
