Indie Game Flooded Interview All Ages of Geek

We Interviewed The Creator Of Indie Game “Flooded”

We recently had a fantastic chat with the creative mind behind the game Flooded, and we can’t wait to share it with you! In our interview, we’re going to dive into the inspirations, goals, and all the exciting details about the game. If you’re curious about Flooded or just love to hear about the behind-the-scenes of game development, this is a must-read for you.

1. Tell us about your games. What inspires your work?

Many mechanics of Flooded were influenced by games “Anno” and “Age of Empires”, especially trade and eras systems. But I’m also trying to look for inspirations outside of games like movies or real life events. For example, one of the inspirations for my next game was the “Shrek” movie. Reading books also seems quite underrated these days as a source of inspiration. People sometimes think it is too time consuming to read books, but in fact it usually takes just a few hours to finish one, while it takes much longer to finish a game or a TV series.

2. What piece of advice would you give to someone who wants to do what you do?

Don’t expect your first game to be good. This is a very painful truth because nobody wants to make bad games. But unfortunately, your first game (and maybe even a few next games) will be far from perfect. That’s why it is also crucial to make your first game simple and easy to produce, because you want to be done with it as soon as possible in order to start developing more complex things. On your way you will learn many important skills like programming, finishing your project, teamwork and many more. All this would be impossible if you designed a game that was too ambitious and got stuck on the design stage of production.

3. Goals for 2024?

Personal goals? Exercise more, use less social media. Career goals? It’s hard to say because I am not sure if my next project will be finished by the end of 2024. But it will be announced for sure, so the goal would be to intrigue as many people as I can with my upcoming game and build some basic community.

4. What is your biggest success story?

I am confident to call “Flooded” my biggest career success. I created this game from scratch nearly on my own, and managed to finish it in the exact form I planned. It was also quite well received by players and reviewers. Of course there is always room for improvement, so I hope my answer to this question will change after my next projects.

5. Where can folks support your work?

Facebook, X/Twitter and of course on Steam !
