Interview with DawnsPlaceYT

What do you do?

I run a TTRPG blog with an accompanying YouTube video series. I call it TTRPG Tuesdays, I also have future plans for NPC creation and more!

How did you get into the TTRPG community?

I got into TTRPG through watching Critical Role, I learned about Critical Role from Ginny Di, who I learned about through Mo Mo O’Brien. Both these women are DnD/TTRPG enthusiasts, Mo Mo shares immersive experiences and Ginny shares her cosplays, music and more.

What is your favorite moment from a TTRPG?

I haven’t played many games but I really enjoyed when my character whittled a stick into a flute. My character Art is a Tiefling cleric bard. I thought it was really cool to be able to use the nature around them to create tools to create art.

What projects are you working on?

I am always working on my TTRPG blog, I update the posts weekly on Tuesdays except for when there is a needed break. I have multiple novels that are work in progresses, and I have a YouTube channel where I play video games and do a video version of the TTRPG blog.

What do you like to do on your YouTube Channel?

I play video games like Minecraft, Sims 4, and small indie games. I love supporting small creators and their projects. I do a video version of my TTRPG blog so there is both an audio and a visual version for those who need them. I have plans to share LARP, cosplay, and real life adventures through blogs in the coming future as well.

What do you write?

I love trying different genres but my favorite genres to write in are fantasy, horror, and thriller. I sometimes mix the three genres together but find if I am writing fantasy stories I enjoy high fantasy novels. The horror and thriller genres work really well together. I also enjoy writing short stories, and creating characters; so that is why I would want to try to make NPC’s for others to use in their games.

How do you deal with writer’s block?

I find writer’s block to be really frustrating to me, but I try to do a few things to work around it. I either take some of my characters from my novels and write downtime scenes that wouldn’t show up in the novel normally. Sometimes that helps get the creative juices flowing. I also find drawing to be a fun downtime and I will draw characters or locations around the worlds I have created to then use it to write about them. It’s a silly enjoyment of mine but I also enjoy writing fanfictions. I find it easier to write fanfictions because most of the creation process is already taken care of for me. I just have to make the scene and the character interaction. If none of that works for me I use writing prompt generators or single word prompts to try and just write a few sentences or a short story.

Sometimes writer’s block happens because you just need a break, so allow yourself to get that break.

Do you have a favorite character you’ve created?

I really enjoy character creation, I don’t know if I can say I have a favorite character. Each of my characters are important to me in different ways. If I had to choose a specific character I would have to say my main character from the novel I am hoping to get published within the next year. His name is Alys, (A-liss), his journey to become the hero has helped me become more confident in both my writing and just in my life. This novel is a passion project for me, Alys and I share a lot of similarities and I have been able to use Alys’s character to deal with a lot of personal experiences.

Where can people find your work?

I am all over the internet depending on the specific interest you have in following me, here is my linktree so you can find me! https://linktr.ee/DawnsPlace

Have any pieces of advice for the reader?

Allow yourself to be creative, don’t create for others, create for yourself. If you want others to enjoy your projects you have to enjoy them first. Everyone’s creative process is different, and yours is personal. Don’t stop being creative just because you worry others won’t enjoy what you do, do what you enjoy for yourself and people will enjoy them too.
