Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once & Always Review

As an avid Power Rangers fan growing up, the new seasons of Power Rangers never seem to intrigue me as much as Mighty Morphin Power Rangers did. Despite all the corny jokes and cheesy lines they always used to say, growing up becoming a Power Ranger was my dream. I’m not going to lie even now whenever I watch Power Ranger episodes, I sometimes wonder if I should quit everything and try to become an actor.

Sadly, Jason David Frank passed away on November 19, 2022, Fans of the Power Rangers series were saddened by the news. He was viewed as our hero and his passing made a lot of hardcore fans feel some type of way. No matter how many seasons of Power Rangers will be released in the future, we still remember Jason David Frank or Tommy as one of the best rangers.

Fast forward to April 12th, Netflix released a trailer for Mighty Morphin Power Rangers for its 30th anniversary. Watching the trailer made me nostalgic and felt like a little kid again. The anticipation and excitement were at an all-time high because not only was a tribute to the mighty Morphin Power Rangers being made, but the original cast YES THE ORIGINAL RANGERS, well some of them, were going to be in the movie.

Now getting into the movie

I won’t give a summary of the movie because most likely if you are reading this, you were probably a fan of the Power Rangers. I honestly loved how the film 1) used the cast of some of the original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers and 2) made the storyline make sense. It almost felt like the movie was made for the older audience and catered to the storyline to show that we have all grown up since then.

What I love about this movie compared to the Power Rangers movie in 2017 is that they didn’t choose to modernize anything and instead made us remember why it was such a great show for us growing up.

Particularly towards the end, fans are given a trip down memory lane with Thuy Trang as the yellow ranger. Especially with the ending scene tributing Jason David Frank and Thuy Trang, fans can’t help getting a bit emotional because these were the heroes for us growing up.

Those that have grown up on the Mighty Morphin Power Ranger series will love all the nostalgia that is shown in the film. It does a great job of staying true to the series while also showing us that despite growing up and getting older, they still were the same heroes as we remembered them.
