We had the pleasure of interviewing Lindsay Jones, a talented voice actor, singer, streamer, and cosplayer, to discuss their journey through the entertainment industry. In this interview, Lindsay Jones shares valuable insight into voice acting, the creative process, and the evolving landscape of online content creation. This is a must-read for anyone interested in learning more about the industry, Lindsay’s work, and their experiences as a creator.

1.What inspired you to become a voice actor?
I’ve been a fan of media, content creation, and performing my whole life, specifically animation. My introduction to anime came in middle school, along with my love for and interest in voice acting. Growing up in the Dallas area, I learned that FUNimation was close by and began researching how to become a voice actor. However, I had no idea how to enter the industry. Ironically, my passion for acting as a whole and specifically voice acting came to fruition with RWBY – my first voice acting role.
2. How has voice acting shaped your growth over the years?
Voice acting has shaped my professional and personal life in so many ways. As an actor, you connect so intimately with the characters you play. Their journeys and growth has inspired mine on such a deep level. Many fans of my characters have said they found comfort and inspiration from the roles that I’ve voiced – I could not relate more.
3. How do you tap into real emotion during tough scenes?
Putting yourself into your character’s headspace is a process that becomes easier over time. Characters experience the same emotional journeys that we do as humans, so finding a similar personal experience or emotional state is a great framework to guide your performance.
4. What’s your go-to method for bringing a new character to life?

First, I try to find the voice. This happens during auditions – you’re usually given direction on what tone, range and speaking patterns the character should have. Once that’s locked in, I find a character’s “theme song”. Music speaks to me on a very, very deep level and finding a song that encompasses the personality traits for a role is crucial to my process. Then, reading out loud and answering these questions: How does this character cry? How do they laugh? How do they groan? How do they scream? What MAKES them do all of these things, generally?
5. Any vocal care tips that have kept you going long-term?
VOCAL REST! After an audition or recording, take a day off. Your vocal chords are muscles, you need to recover after a workout. On top of that, prepping for a recording with herbal syrup is a must. I use NIN JIOM PEI PA KOA, which you can order online. Finally, after a recording, drink some herbal tea! Throat Coat is a great brand, which you can find over the counter.
7. What’s one business tip you think every voice actor should know?
Many actors, directors, and studios post auditions on social media! You don’t have to have access to them directly. Follow them on their platforms and stay on the pulse for new projects!
8. What has been your biggest success story as a voice actor?
Playing Ruby Rose, the titular character in RWBY. This was the first voice acting role I’ve ever had, and the series is now globally renowned and critically acclaimed, with tens of millions in the fanbase. I feel so indescribably blessed and lucky to have been trusted to voice her, then to be a part of such an incredible, ten year journey that so many only dream of experiencing. I do not take it for granted for a second.
9. Has your work as a cosplayer, singer, or streamer ever helped your voice acting? Tell us about your other creative works!
Absolutely! I am a cosplayer, singer, rapper, and VTuber! Bringing characters to life and interacting with fanbases in a totally new way has been so rewarding and allowed my acting skills to grow in many ways. While VTubing, you’re voice acting while improvising as your character for hours. While cosplaying, you’re embodying the physical presence and mindset of a character. When singing, you’re tapping into and expressing your character’s emotions on a level that adds layers of complexity to their dialogue. I highly recommend exploring all of these genres to any actors out there!
10. Where can folks support you?
First, I can’t thank viewers enough for their support! It really does mean the world, I’ll forever be baffled and blown away to have people enjoying my work! I am on X and Instagram under @IAmLindsayJones , on OnlyFans under @joneslyfans , and on my voice acting website – lindsayjonesvo.com
