Dragon Ball Super Episode 1 Reaction

Jumping into our Dragon Ball Super Episode 1 Reaction felt like hitting reset in the best way. After our run through Dragon Ball GT, things started to feel a little… off. Not bad, just weird. Episode 1 of Super comes in like a breath of fresh air. It feels lighter, cleaner, and way more focused on what makes Dragon Ball fun in the first place: everyday life mixed with world-ending potential.

We took a little time before starting Super, and yeah, we apologize for that. GT put us in a strange spot, and Super honestly works as a perfect palate cleanser. It feels like coming back home.

We also talked about how we’re planning to watch the series first and then re-watch with the movies later. A lot of fans say the movies are better directed, and that gives us something to look forward to. Starting with the movies first might actually cut out details that matter, and Dragon Ball is all about those small character moments.

Our Dragon Ball Super Episode 1 Reaction sets that tone immediately.

Life After Majin Buu in our Dragon Ball Super Episode 1 Reaction

The episode opens several months after the defeat of Majin Buu. The world is calm. Peaceful. Almost too peaceful for Goku.

And where is Goku?
Working on a farm.

That alone tells you what kind of episode this is. No screaming. No power-ups. Just Goku struggling to live a normal life. He’s farming, wearing work clothes, and still thinking about training because, in his words, Buu was “ridiculously strong.” His logic is simple and pure Goku: if someone that strong existed once, someone stronger can show up again.

That’s why he wants to go train with King Kai.

Goten is helping him by driving farm equipment… and it goes about as well as you’d expect. Goku tries to train while Goten is driving, and it ends with destroyed machinery. It’s funny, but it also shows how impossible “normal” life is for him.

The 100 Million Zeni Moment

One of the best parts of Episode 1 is Mr. Satan giving Goku 100 million Zeni.

Not because he has to.
But because he feels guilty.

He knows Goku and Vegeta saved the world, took the credit and finally does something honest. The catch? He asks Goku to keep it a secret so his public image doesn’t crumble.

And Goku only agrees after Goten points out that Chi-Chi won’t worry about money anymore, which means Goku can train freely.

That’s such a Goku solution.
Not heroic. Not deep. Just simple and sincere.

Gohan, Videl, and Quiet Pressure

We also get scenes with Gohan and Videl. Videl worries about Gohan studying too much. Gohan, being Gohan, says the best gift she can give him is letting him keep studying.

After everything Gohan’s been through, it feels heavy watching him still carry responsibility like that. We really hope the series or movies give Gohan a win later on. He deserves peace without having to earn it through stress.

Trunks and Goten Being Kids

Trunks and Goten shopping for Videl’s wedding gift is pure slice-of-life Dragon Ball.

They accidentally get hot spring water that isn’t hot spring water. It’s silly, harmless and exactly the kind of moment Dragon Ball is great at. These kids have saved the planet, but they still mess up shopping trips.

That balance is important.

Beerus Enters the Picture in our Dragon Ball Super Episode 1 Reaction

Then we meet Beerus.

And wow, what an entrance.

He gets grumpy, annoyed, and destroys a planet because the meat he wanted wasn’t available. Just casual destruction. That instantly makes him feel different from past villains.

He talks about a dream he had. A premonition. A figure he couldn’t remember. That moment alone sets the entire arc in motion.

Beerus and Whis deciding to go eat and search for this fighter feels so Dragon Ball. The fate of the universe starts… because someone is hungry.

Why Our Dragon Ball Super Episode 1 Reaction Works

What made Episode 1 land for us:

  • The slice of life moments actually matter
  • Goku feels like Goku again
  • The tone is lighter without losing danger
  • Beerus is already interesting without trying too hard
  • Gohan’s house color palette was oddly cozy

Dragon Ball villains don’t need tragic backstories to work. Beerus feels real because he’s casual about his power. There’s a weird kind of honesty in that.

We also talked about how modern anime leans heavily into trauma. Dragon Ball usually leans into overcoming. That difference matters. You don’t need endless suffering to make growth meaningful.

Final Thoughts on Our Dragon Ball Super Episode 1 Reaction

Dragon Ball Super Episode 1 does exactly what a first episode should do:

  • Reconnect you to the cast
  • Show what’s changed
  • Introduce what’s coming
  • Make you want the next episode

It doesn’t scream, rush and just settles you back into the world and quietly reminds you why you loved Dragon Ball in the first place.

Next up… Dragon Ball Super Episode 2 Reaction, and things already start getting messier with Beerus on the move.
