We Interviewed Forbidden Fae Dice

We interviewed Forbidden Fae Dice all about their work!

1. Tell us about your work?

My spouse and I have been making sharp-edged resin dice for a few years as a hobby. We started receiving commissions from friends and family for special sets, and just a few months ago we created our Etsy page, Forbidden Fae Dice.

Our entire business is run and operated by just the two of us. We had to learn everything from how to 3D model and print the master set of dice to the best techniques for polishing and casting. Making dice is a labor of love, which we do on top of our day-jobs.

2. What inspired you to start making Dice?

My love of tabletop games, especially D&D, is what started my obsession with dice. I loved the idea of each character I created having a matching set. Rogues with dark and shadowy dice, druids with dried flowers and moss dice, barbarians with bloody dice. I wanted to capture the essence of each character with a set of dice. When I saw what resin artists and dice creators were able to do, I wanted to try my hand at it. The more I played with and experimented with resin, the more I wanted to create with it. Now I find inspiration everywhere! Not just from my D&D characters, but also from art, video games, landscapes, food, and different cultures.

3. What can people expect from your etsy shop?

Our Etsy shop has only been open for a few weeks, but we already have dozens of different sets of dice available. Each set is unique, and we are always adding more. We can be commissioned to recreate a set if a set is already sold, but the process will take longer to complete. Dozens of hours go into each set, and nothing is mass produced or outsourced. We take so much pride in our work and like to believe that our dice are little pieces of art that you can play with!

We also want to help give back to the community that inspired us and taught us so much by creating a video series that would be a complete guide on how to create dice. This project is in the planning phase right now, but we are hoping to launch the series on our YouTube channel in 2023. It will cover every step of our process, from how we 3D model the dice to the tools we use for polishing and inking the final product.

4. Goals for 2023?

We want to keep growing our small business for the following years until we can make it our full-time job. We would love to be able to support ourselves while creating a product that we can be proud of.

5. Where can people support your work?

Our products are listed on our Etsy shop, https://etsy.com/shop/ForbiddenFaeDice…. We post previews and announcements on all of our socials https://linktr.ee/forbidden_fae_dice…. We also take commissions for special sets of dice, so let us know!
