FanfaireNYC 2023

The High School of Art & Design is proud to announce this year’s edition of FanfaireNYC, taking place Saturday and Sunday, April 29-30 10am-5pm EDT. Now in its sixth year, the event returns in person to the beautiful High School of Art and Design building.

FanfaireNYC is an annual festival celebrating pop culture, where award-winning guest speakers provide insights about their careers and creative processes, and fans and aspiring artists can attend cosplay contests, panel discussions, workshops, D&D, a graffiti event, and portfolio reviews. Proceeds from the event benefit the Art & Design High School PTA, supporting programs and materials for their young professionals.

FanfaireNYC will promote creativity, entrepreneurship, and technology in the arts—reflecting all of the High School of Art and Design’s eight majors. From cartooning and animation to architecture, Film/Video, illustration, graphic design, fashion, and photography. This year’s event provides a unique opportunity to draw upon industry professionals live and in person to inspire the next generation of artists. Special guests include animators Abe Audish and Dan Haskett, cartoonist Alex Simmons, comic writer Greg Pak, graffiti artist Al Diaz, landscape architect Taewook Cha, architect Talisha Sainvil, fashion illustrator Deanna Kei, filmmaker Alba Enid Garcia Rivas, along with D&D masters and a Graffiti Arts event sponsored by the High School of Art and Design Alumni Association and Thrive Collective.

The Art & Design PTA created FanfaireNYC as part of its mission to provide funding for high-quality art programs that help prepare students for academic success and careers as professional commercial artists. The event will offer students access to the best of the global entertainment and creative industries to help inspire and inform future careers. Through paid internships in their field, professional certifications, Advanced Placement courses, and early college opportunities, the High School of Art and Design embodies the NYC Public Schools’ Chancellor’s vision of ensuring every NYC student is on a pathway towards 21st century career success.

“The High School of Art & Design is proud home to NYC’s premier young professional artists.
FanfaireNYC is one of the largest opportunities that our students have to garner the support and patronage of our wider NYC creator community. We learn from our peers, mentors and trailblazers who have set the path of success before us. We are grateful to partner with FanfaireNYC’s organizing committee, our PTA and look forward to continuing this great tradition.” says HSAD principal, Maximillian Re-Sugiura.
