Chainsaw Man Episode Four Review

by Gen/Esis

Denji is a guy who’s relentless when it comes to getting what he wants—that much has been obvious through the last three episodes of Chainsaw Man. But episode 4 really pushes Denji to his absolute limit while never deviating him from the one thing he wants most of all—boobs (On the surface that is).

Picking up after that blood-filled fight scene between Denji and the Bat Devil, this episode continues the streak of amazing fight scenes by one-upping the last. Maybe it was the lack of obvious CGI or just the phenomenal choreography and gore, but this scene was phenomenal. Not only did it put Denji’s relentlessness into full display, but the brutality that comes with Chainsaw Man was too.

Even when Denji’s goals are put into question, or maybe especially because of that, there isn’t a moment where he falters. Using every iota of strength he had in his body, he fought until the very end with his powers not even at full blast.

MAPPA’s work here is spectacular and the voice actors do justice to both the manga and the animation.

Along with the heart-pounding action, the moments of slice of life excelled here too. Comedically introducing power into Aki and Denji’s apartment only for them to get sick of her almost immediately is just great. It seems that Aki just got more dumped on his shoulders, and maybe more than he ever asked for…

But as Makima pointed out, it seems that spending time with Denji has been influencing him, making him more flexible in the process.

The episode ends with Denji on the brink of accomplishing his life’s goal. With his dream so close in that he could grasp it—literally, why wouldn’t he take that opportunity?

Either way, this was a solid episode that flew right by. Another banger of an ending theme and enough character development for that side of me to be quenched.
