Interview: Team Gryfyard Talks Colorami, a Cozy Two-Player Puzzle Platformer

We had the pleasure of chatting with Magdalena Drezner the designer at Team Gryfyard all about Colorami! “Repaint platforms on the map to solve asymmetric puzzles for two players. Use the unique function of each platform type to open up new paths. Cooperate, plan, solve, experiment with colors, and restart freely if need be. A vibrant pixel art world and its spirits need your help.”

1. What inspired your game?

One of the main inspirations for ‘Colorami’ was born from the lack of similar games at the time of its conceptualization. There was a lot of single- and proper multiplayer games, but not that many games just for two people. We were also aiming for a game that was less about the arcade skill and precise jumps, and more about thinking and solving the game challengers together.

2. What are your goals for your game?

We want people to sit and relax by a game that allows them to solve the puzzles at everyone’s own pace.

3. How would you pitch your game in 3-5 words?

Cozy Puzzle Platformer for couples (or friends!) 🙂

4. What advice would you give to new devs?

If you’re just staring with coding, and if it’s possible for your game, create your prototype outside the engine first! Use elements from board games, card games or other media. You’ll be better off testing your core idea before you spend hours and hours only to create something that you end up disliking. It’s quite discouraging to change your mind after you’ve put in a lot of work.

5. What has been your biggest success story relating to your game?

To start with, it seems almost unthinkable that this game, which we used to develop as a prototype on the side in our spare time, entered a full production cycle with dedicated programmers, artists, and QA. Every day bringing us closer to a game that’s fully fleshed out, fun to play and visually stunning feels like success in itself. But also, reactions during the February Steam Next Fest have been a very neat surprise. We earned more than three times the wishlists we’d had before the event, and people are still catching up downloading and playing the demo. Seeing people play the game makes us very excited for the full release.

6. Where can folks support your game?

Play our demo, wishlist Colorami on Steam to let us get through the algorithms. Since it’s our first game, all the feedback matters! You can also check out our socials (Bsky/ X/ TikTok/ Instagram) by searching @Gryfyard across the platforms.
