Pokémon Day with Sarah Natochenny on Friday, February 27th at Trainer Court NYC was a really fun event that felt like a true fan gathering. Seeing all the Pokémon merch and themed setup in person was exciting, but the best part was the people. Everyone at the event was kind, welcoming, and easy to talk to, and it was nice to see new friendships being made while celebrating something so many people care about.

What stood out most was how much love there was for Pokémon from every direction. Even with the cold weather in NYC, fans showed up with a lot of heart, and that gave the whole event such a warm community feel. It really felt like one big celebration filled with passionate fans who were happy to be there.

What is Pokémon Day
Pokémon Day is a yearly celebration of the series’ beginning, marking the release of the original Pokémon games in Japan on February 27, 1996. That also makes 2026 a big year for fans, since it marks 30 years of Pokémon.
This year’s celebration also came with a big game reveal during Pokémon Presents, giving fans a first look at Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves.
The new trailer revealed the three first partner Pokémon: Browt, Pombon, and Gecqua. It also teased two special Pikachu, Mr. Windychu and Ms. Wavychu. The games are planned for a worldwide release on Nintendo Switch 2 in 2027, and Brazilian Portuguese will be supported as a selectable language.
