During Tokyo Game Show 2025, the All Ages of Geek team sat down with Borderless Studios, the passionate creative mind behind Clock Out at 2, a modern horror visual novel that transforms the everyday corporate grind into a psychological nightmare. But beyond jump scares and eerie office halls, this project is part of something much bigger: a growing movement of indie developers using storytelling to challenge real-world issues and champion authentic representation in gaming.

At Borderless Studios, games are conversation starters. Rooted in collaboration, empathy, and lived experience, this small international team has set out to prove that even a short jam project can evolve into a meaningful piece of art when it strikes a chord with players and creators alike.

The Story Behind Clock Out at 2

“Can you survive the corporate grind?” That’s the question Clock Out at 2 poses.
Players step into the shoes of Celia, an Afro-Latina woman trying to hold herself together in a toxic workplace where “clocking out early” is unheard of. Since a mysterious incident, she’s begun seeing terrifying creatures lurking in her office. But are they real or the manifestation of mounting stress, burnout, and self-doubt?
This isn’t your average horror visual novel. Clock Out at 2 blends supernatural elements with grounded emotional stakes, forcing players to make choices that test their empathy and sense of self. Through Celia’s eyes, players experience the psychological toll of corporate exploitation and the pressure to perform under impossible expectations.

Clock Out at 2 was Born From a Game Jam, Built By a Collective
What makes Clock Out at 2 even more remarkable is its origin. The project began during the Spooktober 2023 Visual Novel Jam, an event where creators come together to produce short, themed games in a limited time frame. Game jams are known for sparking creativity, but few projects go beyond the submission phase. Clock Out at 2 is one of those rare exceptions.

The team behind it was assembled through the Melanated Game Kitchen (MGK), a collective dedicated to amplifying BIPOC voices in game development.
Since then, Borderless Studios has continued developing Clock Out at 2 into a full, polished experience, expanding its narrative, visuals, and themes.
