E3 Gaming Announcement: Guardians of the Galaxy

With the yearly E3 gaming conference comes new games for various gamers to look forward to. This year was no different. During the Square Enix section a few new games were announced, one of which being Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy. What can we expect from this game that stars the galaxy’s small group of unlikely heroes? Well, grab your walkman and get ready to play some of the best 80s tunes, let’s dive in and groove with Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy

Video from GameSpot’s official Youtube channel.

When it comes to the game’s story, what we know is that the Guardians have been a team for less than a year and they’re going through some serious money trouble. Also, they tried hunting some mean space monster for some extra cash, but that might’ve not worked out so well in their favor. By going after this space monster, they might have ticked off the wrong space beings and now they have to travel to different parts of the galaxy to resolve everything. Man, it really isn’t easy being the Guardians of the Galaxy.

What’s also going to make the game more interesting (and possibly more difficult), is that you play as Star-Lord himself, which means that you’ll have to make some tough calls. Yep, this game will put you in positions where you’ll have a time limit on the choices you make. Some can bring about goofy results, while others will have more serious and unexpected outcomes later on. The game’s combat system looks fun and pretty fluid, not to mention that you can call out to your teammates for some assistance. The only part that I’m nervous about, is if there will be moments where you’re flying the ship. Lord knows how many times I’ll end up accidentally destroying the poor thing.

Along with the Guardians, we’ll be running into a colorful cast of original Marvel characters (including Mantis), most of which I don’t recognize. What I do know is some of them look like they mean business and I wouldn’t want to get on their bad side. Also, there’s a dog in a spacesuit?! If I wasn’t already signed up for getting and playing this game, the dog has me even more signed up. I’m sure that he’s a pretty big character in the Marvel universe, but that makes the discovery all the more exciting. One of the biggest questions the trailer raised for me, however, is who or what the purple llama is. The only way to find out is to play the game, I guess.

Last but, not least, the game is going to have an amazing, head-bopping soundtrack. Why is that? Because it’s going to contain the best of 80s music. If you haven’t listened to any 80s music, well, prepare your eardrums and brain as they get blown. What I mean is, the soundtrack is going to be spectacular. As for the release date and available systems: Guardians of the Galaxy will be available on October 26th, 2021 for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Nintendo Switch. Preorders will give you an early unlocking of the Throwback Costumes (which looks like what they must’ve looked like back in the comics). There is also a Deluxe Edition available for preorder, which includes the game, an early unlock of two different Star-Lord costumes, a digital download of the game’s soundtrack, and the artbook. There’s both a digital and physical version (called the Cosmic Deluxe edition), where the artbook is in hardcover and the game comes in a SteelBook case

Personally, I’m super excited for this game. I’ve enjoyed the movies, so it’ll be interesting to see how the game’s story plays out. I know for certain that my heart is going to break from some of the tough choices that I’ll have to make. If any of you are interested in looking into the game some more, you can check out the website here. Now that I’ve shared some of my thoughts on Guardians of the Galaxy (with what we know so far), tell me what all of you think about the game. Are you as excited as I am or are you gonna wait to see what everyone else says about it? Whatever you think, please feel free to leave your thoughts in the comments below. Until then, this is Tracy Preston/CuriousCat-13: signing off.
