We had the pleasure of interviewing Blue Lily Games about their upcoming survival horror game, Moonlight Pale. Moonlight Pale is a hand-drawn story-driven game filled with exploration, puzzles, and tense combat. In this interview, we chat about the game’s inspiration, animation process, Kickstarter goals, and what players can expect from its world.
1. Tell us about Moonlight Pale. What kind of game is it, and what can players expect?
Moonlight Pale is a complete Survival Horror experience and a mix of PS2 survival horror era and rpg maker style Horror Adventure games. It’s a story driven game with a focus on exploration, puzzle and tense combat mechanics.
2. What inspired the story, world, and characters of Moonlight Pale?

Moonlight Pale was mostly inspired by a nightmare one night. You’ll notice heavy influences from psychological horror games such as Silent Hill 2 and Rule of Rose, and movies like Suspiria and A tale of Two Sisters.
3. Can you talk about the hand-drawing process for the game?

Ao Clover: Everything is being animated frame by frame at 24 fps and hand-painted. Of course, since I’m handling all the sprites and assets on my own, it’s best to find an efficient (and less exhausting) way to streamline the animation process like using a low amount of frames. For example: Juliette will have different weapons to defend herself with throughout the game, so I start by animating her head and torso with separate arms. That way, I just have to swap out her arms with the different objects she’ll be holding. Also, all the actions are drawn from scratch, but if a frame within that action looks similar to another, I take the liberty of reusing them!
4. What advice would you give to creators who are afraid to start making their own games?
There’s nothing to be afraid of. plenty of free options and resources out there to start! Make a game now. do it.
5. What are your main goals for the Moonlight Pale Kickstarter?

Our main goal was to secure financial safety while developing the game lol. We’d also love to be able to port Moonlight Pale ourselves to many more platforms.
6. What has been the most challenging part of creating Moonlight Pale?
We are just 2 people working on it and it’s our very first time working on a game like this in Unity. Every single asset is hand-drawn so it took us a bit of trial and error to get things right. Mostly a lot of layering work.
7. What has been the most rewarding part of working on the game?

The game itself.
8. Are there any characters you are especially excited for players to meet?

All of them!
9. How long has Moonlight Pale been in development?
We started making Moonlight Pale around December 2025 so like 6 months!
10. For people who are new to your work, why should they check out Moonlight Pale?
We grew up playing survival horror and horror adventure, starting from a very young age we probably shouldn’t have. The design and particularities of the genre are engraved in our DNA. Moonlight Pale came from a nightmare but it’s an actual dream come true. If you love Survival Horror or even if you are new to the genre and love indie animation, tragic stories or doomed yuri, we are sure you’ll love Moonlight Pale. We aim to make Moonlight Pale a bizarrely uncomfortable and enjoyable experience to anyone who enters its tragic world.
11. Where can people follow the project and support the Kickstarter?
You can follow us on Twitter and Instagram as @BlueLilyGames and you can support the kickstarter through the following link!
