Japan Releasing The Sega Game Gear Micro

Sega's Game Gear Micro Is Extremely Disappointing | CBR

Sega is bringing back some nostalgia in a small package as they are ready to release the Game Gear Micro in Japan later this year. Celebrating its upcoming 60th anniversary, the former console company is looking to unveil four of these handhelds that fit into the size of your palm when it comes out on October 6. The Game Gear was Sega’s answer to the popular Game Boy back in the 90s, which offered color display that was lacking with Nintendo’s original handheld system.

Each of these little Game Gears will have a variety of colors to choose from as well as some games already installed in the system from the original version. The Game Gear Micro will come in four colors: black, yellow, blue, and red. The only catch is that each color will come with a separate set of games to play. If you want to try them all, you may want to get your hands on all four of them. Each of these mini handhelds cost 4.980 yen or about $46. There’s also a Collection package that comes with all four handhelds for only 27,255 yen or about $250. There hasn’t been any announcement regarding an international release.

With the Micro screen’s size coming to 1.15 inches diagonally, it is perhaps the smallest we’ve seen on a handheld. If it is too small for your eyes to see, there is also a Big Window magnifier accessory available if for pre-order all four of the Micros. Similarly, Nintendo did a similar tactic with the Game Boy Micro, which was a smaller version of the Game Boy Advance.

For a better look at what titles are available, here’s the list of games you can play for each colored handheld:

Black: Puyo Puyo 2, Outrun, Royal Stone, and Sonic the Hedgehog

Yellow: Nazo Puyo: Aruru no Ru, Shining Force Gaiden, Shining Force Gaiden 2, Shining Force: Final Conflict

Blue: Baku Baku Animal, Gunstar Heroes, Sonic & Tails, Sylvan Tale

Red: Columns, Megami Tensei Gaiden: Last Bible, Megami Tensei Gaiden: Last Bible Special, The GG Shinobi
