All Ages of Geek Artist Laine Powell

We Interviewed Artist Laine Powell!

1. What inspired you to start doing art?

A lot of artists have these super inspiration stories about how they watched a Disney movie as a kid and KNEW that’s what they were meant to do, but honestly it was never that for me. I drew as a kid, like all kids tend to, and then I just didn’t stop. It was just something that made me happy, and even more so when I (eventually) learned it was something I could do as a career.

2. What is your favorite art piece you’ve made?

My favorite art piece practically changes with the season, because every few months I see myself as drastically better than the previous. Right now, I think I’d say it’s the witchsona piece I made in October!

3. What advice would you give to other artists?

My biggest advice for artists is not to feel like you have to go to college and get a degree in art to be successful!! This is genuinely something I didn’t know when I was 17 and have ended up in debt and in a program for a skill I could have just learned online and didn’t need a degree to get a job in. Also research what jobs there are! There are so many possibilities you might not know about! (I didn’t even know illustrators existed until a couple of years ago)

4. What are your plans for 2021?

Right now I’m still a junior in college, so my plans for 2021 are really just to get through my classes with my mental state intact. As for art specifically, mostly just running my online art store and expanding it and its products as much as I possibly can!
