Upcoming Horror Game Remakes To Look Out For

It seems as if horror games have entered a golden age as many of the classics are getting an upgrade with these remakes recently. Horror games have given gamers a sense of escapism and terror as they clutch their sweaty palms to make it through these elaborate and hauntingly beautiful landscapes. After the release of the remake of Resident Evil 2, it seems like the horror games that fans have played before are getting a fresh coat of paint to recreate and perhaps improve on the experiences of these incredibly successful titles. There is a trend of video games that have recently been remade and it continues to grow with these studios giving them a second chance on life to fans and newcomers who are experiencing them for the first time. As we look forward to these upcoming horror game remakes, here are some that we can’t wait to get our hands on.

Resident Evil 4

Speaking of Resident Evil, the franchise is ready to remake one of the best games that the franchise has ever released. Resident Evil 4 is the next in the line-up of titles that Capcom is bringing back after the success of the last two remakes in the series. The original has stood tall as a great survival horror game in its own right thanks to its mechanics, story, characters, and graphics. It was originally released on the GameCube before it was ported into other platforms over the years. It made the over-the-shoulder third-person gameplay so popular that it was replicated in other games in that genre. The remake for Resident Evil 4 continues to follow Leon S. Kennedy as he goes searching for the daughter of the US President in an isolated Spanish village overrun by a cult with parasitic creatures. This is a highly anticipated game that will surely have fans playing this new iteration of a classic when it drops on March 24th, 2023.

Dead Space

It has been a while since we had a game from EA’s hit sci-fi horror series since 2013 when Dead Space 3 was released. Well, EA is looking to revitalize the franchise as they team up with Motive Studio to remake the first Dead Space game. The original came out in 2008 to positive reviews from critics and fans, helping breathe new life into the survival horror genre with its third-person view taking place in space. Just like the first game, the remake will also follow engineer Isaac Clarke in the 26th Century as he navigates through a spaceship and battles Necromorphs in search of the missing crew. Expect some changes in the remake as Isaac will have a somewhat a personality than the original, where he was mostly mute throughout the game. However, most of these changes should help fix some issues that came with the original. Players can jump back into the USG Ishimura when the Dead Space remake releases on January 27th next year.

Silent Hill 2

It has been a while since we last heard from Konami’s horror franchise Silent Hill. Rumors of a remake of Silent Hill have been swirling around the web for some time, but it was finally revealed at a Konami presentation that a remake of Silent Hill 2 is in the works. Fans got to see a sneak peek at the game with a teaser trailer featuring the character James Sunderland making his way to the famed ghost town. The remake of the 2001 game is being developed by Bloober Team, a Polish developer who recently worked on The Medium last year. It will be interesting to see how the remake of one of the greatest horror games of all time fares up. All we know so far is that the original composer and artist from the second game will be involved in the development of the remake. No release date has been given, but fans are eagerly awaiting to return to Silent Hill once the new game comes out.

Alone in the Dark

A remake of Alone in the Dark has been a long time coming and it is going back to its roots. THQ Nordic is tackling this classic series with a reimagining of the first title making use of its Southern Gothic setting. Just like the first game, it follows Edward Carnby and Emily Hartwood as they investigate the disappearance of Emily’s uncle. The game’s visuals are being made by comic book scribe Guy Davis, known for his many collaborations with director Guillermo del Toro. The trailer we got revealed that the gameplay would be similar to the recent Resident Evil remakes, so it’s taking cues from that horror franchise. Former Frictional Games’ Mikael Hedberg is heading up the team for the remake and said it will be a love letter to the original story. Fans can expect some psychological horror and great visuals for the new Alone in the Dark title whenever that makes its official release.
