Latest on Pokemon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl

Calling all trainers! The time has arrived for Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Pokemon Shining Pearl are available for pre-order on the Nintendo Switch for $59.99. The games were first released in 2006 as Pokemon Diamond and Pearl on the Nintendo DS. Many fans have awaited the remake since the Pokemon Sword and Shield were released in 2019. With two different games available, Pokemon fans have begun searching for any information about Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Pokemon Shining Pearl to aid in their choice between the two if they cannot have both. Here’s what is known:

Some pokemon will be exclusive to a certain game. Cranidos, Rampardos, Stunky, Skuntank, and the legendary pokemon, Dialga, are all the known pokemon exclusive to Pokemon Brilliant Diamond. Glameow, Purugly, Shieldon, Blastiodon, and the legendary pokemon, Palkia, are exclusive to Pokemon Shining Pearl. However, players can still complete the Pokedex by trading for the exclusive pokemon from each game in the Pokemon Home option. The Pokedex also has a larger number of pokemon than the original games. In this screenshot from the official website, clearly shows Bidoof as character #399, which is bigger than Diamond & Pearl’s original Pokedex.

Game screenshots have set Pokemon fans in a frenzy over some of the significant changes to the ‘faithful remake’ that was marketed to fans by Studio ILCA. Previously, Studio ILCA has not yet confirmed the class of Pokemon would be in the game as the fairy type first debuted in the Kalos region in 2013’s Pokemon X & Y. However, in a photo tweeted by Pokemon expert Eclipse, the symbol for Fairy-type Pokemon can be seen for a split second.

Popular Pokemon researcher Matt ‘mattyoukhana_’ spotted the change and pointed out that both upcoming titles are dropping sprites for Pokemon and items. The pixel-based models have been used in games for decades, including Gen 8’s Sword & Shield which was released in 2019. Fans were nostalgic over the loss of the pixel format, however, after 25 years of games, there are bound to be some changes that fans are not thrilled about.

Nintendo and The Pokemon Company are offering an early purchase bonus for Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. Everyone who picks up a physical or digital copy of either Switch title before Feb. 21, 2022, can receive a free Manaphy egg in their game. Manaphy is a water-type Mythical Pokemon, a rare monster that can’t be obtained through normal gameplay, making this early purchase offer the only confirmed way to get one in Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. The egg will be distributed via the Mystery Gift function, which unlocks approximately two hours into the adventure.

The official game will be released on November 19, 2021, for download from the Nintendo shop and picked up at retail stores. There are other smaller bonuses available based on how a player purchases the game. Game screenshots and information are still being released as the release date approaches. Pokemon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl will still hold the magic of the original game that long-time players will appreciate and new changes for the new players. Pre-orders are available, and many fans are counting down the days until the official release date. Trainers prepare for your next adventure.
