How WandaVision Changes the MCU

Greetings, geeks of all ages! The latest episode of WandaVision has opened up a multiverse of possibilities. There are so many ways the MCU can continue from this point on, and many other possibilities of how the show will end. However, what remains clear throughout all of this is that the MCU will never be the same after this. I’ll leave a spoiler warning here for those of you who have not seen Episode 5 of WandaVision. Please watch the episode, then come back here to read the rest of this article.

Mutants in the MCU

We have known for a while that Kevin Feige has plans to introduce mutants into the MCU. The details were never made clear, so there was always speculation on how they would approach this task. Would it be in the movies? Through a viral marketing campaign? Or perhaps a tie in series on Disney+? With the latest episode of WandaVision, we have our answer.

At the end of the episode, we are given the reappearance of Pietro Maximoff, Quicksilver, in the MCU. Except, not really. In a surprise twist, the Quicksilver that shows up is not played by Aaron Taylor Johnson like he was in Age of Ultron. Instead, we see Evan Peters from the Fox X-Men movies show up as Quicksilver. While those movies were of questionable quality during the later movies, one thing that was universally praised was Peters’ performance as Quicksilver. Using this character to introduce mutants into the MCU is a brilliant move on their part.

Multiverse of Madness

With Evan Peters playing Quicksilver, it begs the question: what comes next? If this version of Quicksilver is indeed the one from the Fox movies, then not only would he be the first Mutant in the MCU, but the first character to hop universes as well. So, if that’s the case, what other characters can crossover? It was already announced that Scarlet Witch will be appearing Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Does this mean that Quicksilver appearing is part of that? Will Quicksilver also appear in the movie? Or, will this storyline be resolved by the end of the show?

There are so many questions that I want answers to, and the only way to get them is to continue watching the show. I, as a fan of the Marvel Comics, am fully invested in the story. No matter how long it may take, I will continue to keep up with the larger narrative they are continuing to weave. And I will continue to write more of these articles when major events in the MCU happen. Until then, ciao~!
