Ashley Hargrove Interview: From Voice Acting to Film and Content Creation

We had the pleasure of interviewing Ashley Hargrove, an actress, voice actor, writer, and content creator. Ashley has worked on projects like PakaPaka, Marriage Bites, and more. In this interview, Ashley talks about getting started in voice acting, advice for new actors, balancing creative work, and what fans can expect from her YouTube channel.

1. What inspired you to start voice acting

I had been doing a bit of a onscreen acting and grew curious. But wasn’t sure where to start. A friend got me a mic as a Christmas present after an acquaintance had reached out about a small voiceover project they had needing someone that could do a British accent and able to jump back to American. With watching more cartoon shows and animated movies, I started becoming more amazed at how they were created and the voicework was done.

2. What advice would you give new actors?

It may not be an easy start, but don’t give up! Constantly attend events, take classes, study. You will go through a lot of auditions, and receive rejections, but remember, it’s part of the process. Just because you didn’t get the role, doesn’t mean you won’t be remembered by the casting team. Keep an eye out for scammers as well and keep your pages clean. Know your limits and read contracts thoroughly. Things take time, and while there are discouraging moments, there are great moments as well. Check your ego at the door before walking on the set and know the rules! Promote your projects that you’re in.

3. What has been your greatest success story so far as an actor?

That’s a good question! If for voiceover, I think for me it was voicing Gerty in PakaPaka and getting into voicing videogames! As an actor, seeing movies you’re in get to theaters and distribution. Moving up from blurred background to paid speaking roles is my success, so a mix of movies.

4. You also do content creation! How do you balance doing so many creative things?

Sometimes you have to give up a few things and stick to a tight schedule. As you’re building a career, you’ll have some help along the way, whether your agent, manager, spouse, etc., but you will have to do the grunt work along with the creative things you love! I remind myself that no one can do it for me, and I’m there to succeed. I try to stay organized with planners and post its and lists, keeping an eye on due dates and what can be worked in. But, still leave a little bit of time to relax.

5. What can folks expect to see on your Youtube?

A lot more content is coming! Over 620 videos and gaming content is increasing, along with nostalgia, film work, exploring with nature, as I’m on hikes, caving, and even storm chasing.

6. Has content creation helped you in voice acting?

Some actually! A few reached out to me and had referrals to other projects.

7. Where can folks support your work
